Leah Garrard-Cole is the co-founder of the highly successful organic baby and children's food brand, Love Child Organics. Launched in 2013, Love Child has rapidly grown to become the #2 organic baby food brand in Canada and has wide-spread distribution at mass and independent retailers across Canada. Since Love Child Organics was acquired by GreenSpace Brands in late 2015, Leah continues to lead the brand and is responsible for product innovation and marketing. Since inception, due to Leah's core belief that businesses should focus on their social impact as well as profitability, Love Child Organics has partnered with non-profits supporting children in need and is a Certified B Corporation.
In 2015 Leah was chosen as one of twelve EY Entrepreneurial Women in North America for the high growth and success of Love Child Organics, and was honoured to participate in the Winning Women mentorship program, an opportunity that provided her with highly valuable support and learnings as a new female entrepreneur.
Building on her experience of creating organic recipes for Love Child Organics and her hobby as a passionate home cook, in spring 2017, through Penguin Random House Canada, Leah is publishing her first cookbook, It All Begins with Food. From babies first food, to wholesome family meals, this how-to guide for cooking for a young family has over 120 recipes for clean eating and healthy living.
Prior to founding Love Child Organics, Leah worked in education, as an elementary classroom teacher in West Vancouver, British Columbia, and for many years, in London, England, mostly in inner-city schools. There she worked as an elementary school classroom teacher in mainstream education as well as a secondary school English and Special Needs teacher in a school for children who have been expelled from mainstream education. For the last five years of her career in education, Leah worked in administration as an Assistant Head and Deputy Head Teacher (the Canadian equivalent of a Vice Principal), holding responsible for all aspects of inclusion such as special education needs, ethnic minority achievement, visual literacy, new teacher mentorship and gifted education, including working as Lead Teacher for Gifted Education for the city of Westminster.
Leah holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Professional Teaching Certificate from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Masters Degree in Special Education from Flinders University. She lives with her husband John and their two young children, Poppy and Cameron, in beautiful Whistler, British Columbia.
